Shatter me by Tahereh Mafi

I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by the cover, and I didn’t I swear! But I have to confess that I did initially buy the book based on the cover. Of course the caption on the back captured me or else I wouldn’t have bought it (well, I might have just because it would look pretty on my shelf), but you have to agree that the cover is freaking amazing! Right?!

Starting Shatter me, I was mesmerized by Tahereh’s writing. The book started out with a lot of repeating words and sentences. I could see they were thoughts, maybe written in a diary. Then when I found out who’s thoughts they were and where she was, I understood why the thoughts were so scattered.

The world is not what it used to be and is crumbling to pieces, and the Reestablishment takes over control. 264 days ago 17 year old Juliette accidentally killed someone, and she got locked away by The Reestablishment. Why? Juliette’s touch is lethal, making her a dangerous weapon.

I cannot express how much I love this book. Not only do I actually like the main female character Juliette (which I often don’t), but I also love Kenji, Adam and Warner who are three of the other main characters. The story has it all; love, action and even supernatural powers! How can you not like it?

So far there are three other books in the series. It started out as a triology series, but last summer Tahereh revealed that she was writing three more books in the series!! As you can imagine I couldn’t have been more excited. And when I finally got my hands on a copy just under a month ago I read it in one day, I couldn’t put it down.

Luckily for me this was one of the first fantasy/dystopian books I read so I didn’t have much to compare it to. Now when I read a dystopian book I feel like I have read too many and that there are too many similarities in them.. But, no matter how many dystopian books you have read I think you will enjoy this one! There are so many things I would like to tell you about what happens in the book but I will leave you here so I don’t give you any major spoilers!
